*ASSIGNMENT EDITOR – For WFOR-Channel 4 in Miami. Determine news assignments as supervised by the managing editor. Monitor law enforcement and fire frequencies on newsroom scanners for spot news. Call law enforcement and firefighting agencies to learn if spot news must be assigned. Check wires for on-air bulletins or special reports and new story assignments. Prepare a situationer describing in detail what stories are being covered, who is covering them, and approximately how much air time is required for each story. Gather information by telephone on news stories that are not assigned to reporters. Participate in story meetings. Schedule remote trucks (ENG/SNG). Develop contacts in community and cultivate those contacts for news stories.
